Short Line Data Systems ROCS Update – January 2007
Website – www.sdsrocs.com
Greetings and Happy New Year –
2007 has dawned, and we start our sixth year of monthly updates. We are starting the year with a new customer, bringing everyone to the same point, and some small incremental changes to the systems. We will also bring you up to date on our schedule for the first third of the year, and give some hints on a big announcement that we will be having next month.
New Customer
SDS is honored to welcome the Port Authority of San Antonio to the ROCS family. We will be traveling down to Texas in a couple of days to install the ROCS system on their site, and look forward to a long relationship.
ROCS Version 10
We are taking the first part of this year to bring all users up to Version 10. All of the users have the critical parts of V10, but some don’t have all of the pretty bits which make Version 9 Version 10. We will be working on one customer at a time, starting with the Texas Central Business Lines in two weeks. The rest of the non-V10 customers will be upgraded shortly thereafter. This group standardization will allow us to move forward in the second quarter of the year with development of Version 11, and make the transition to that version easier for everyone.
ROCSDispatch
All of the Dispatch users are using Version 6 of the system, with the only differences between the users being the rules basis (NORAC or GCOR) and the individual customization for the railroad. We will be continuing our work on integrating GPS into Dispatch, and we should be making some announcements of new users in the coming months,
PET ROCS
The passenger season in Maine has finally come to a close, and we are now able to take the time to see what worked and what didn’t during the first season of use up at the Maine Eastern. We will be meeting with the personnel from the MERR this week, and start making the lists of improvements for the next season. We are also talking with a couple of potential customers for the system, and should be making some announcements in the coming months.
Travel Schedule January-April
The following is our current travel schedule. Unless noted, we are always reachable via cell phone and email at all times.
January 23-28 – San Antonio and Dallas, TX
February 21-24 – CSXT Short Line Conference, Jacksonville FL

Steven Friedland President |
