Greetings:

Here we are, at the second week of August, and here in the New York metropolitan area, we might have our first 90 degree day of the summer this week.  I can’t believe the amount of rain that we have received this summer, and while we don’t have to worry about a drought any time soon, it would have been nicer to have had a couple more sunny days.

In this update we will bring you up to date with the latest happenings with our Hours of Service System, HOSSTM, our plans for the ASLRRA Central/Pacific Region meeting in Seattle next week, and our plans for the fall.

HOSS

The response to our new Hours of Service System has been gratifying.  We are proud to announce three new customers for the system, the Housatonic Railroad, Pan Am Railways, and the Montreal, Maine, & Atlantic.  The Housatonic is SDS’s oldest customer, and we are happy that they have decided to add HOSS  to their existing ROCS installation.  We welcome Pan Am and MMA,  to the SDS family, and we look forward to what should be a long and fruitful relationship.

As for HOSS itself, we are now distributing Version 1C to the Access 2007 users, and have also been incorporating most of the changes into the Access 2003 versions.  The newest features include a report version of the Employee Status screen, which is the main screen of HOSS.  This came about following a request from a user. We are also working on a couple of new features that have also come as user requests.  We are expecting some clarification of how the Hours of Service laws will be enforced by the FRA in the coming weeks, and as soon as we have that guidance, we will make the appropriate adjustments to HOSS.  The system will be on display at the Central/Pacific Meeting in Seattle, and we will be announcing more new customers for the system in next month’s update.

ASLRRA Central/Pacific Regional Meeting

We are heading out to Seattle on Friday for the ASLRRA Central/Pacific Regional Meeting on August 16-18.  The program for the meeting has been heavily revised, with a concurrent educational session and a tabletop exhibit area for the event sponsors.  We are proud to be an event sponsor again for the meeting, and we look forward to seeing everyone at our table in the exhibit area.  We will have all of our products available for display, and literature and giveaways for you to bring home with you.  If you are going to be at the meeting, please take a moment to stop by the table and say hi, and we’ll be happy to show you what’s new at SDS.

Vacation and Travel Schedule

Following our time in Seattle, we will be on vacation from August 20-28.  When we are on the road, we will be reachable via cell phone and email.  Our response time will be a little longer than normal, but we will be able to respond to any issues that might arise.  When we are in Seattle, please remember the time difference.

As for other travels, we will be travelling to Baltimore in September to complete the ROCS installation at the Canton Railroad.  Following that, we will be in Indianapolis for the ASLRRA Eastern Region Meeting October 11-13.  We will keep you posted on other travels as they get scheduled.

Well, that is all for now.  We’ll be back next month with a follow up on all of the latest goings on at Short Line Data Systems.

Stay safe.
