Short Line Data Systems Inc.  ROCS Update – August 2008

Website: www.sdsrocs.com

Greetings –

The lazy, hazy days of summer are in full swing, and in no time what so ever it will be Labor Day, and the summer will have come to an end.  We’ve been quite busy with moving our users over to both Version 11 of ROCStm and to the new communications software, Robo-FTPtm.  We are also working on the GPS integration with ROCSDispatchtm, and we have been making improvements to the TRACCURATEtm system .  In this update we will also be going over our vacation and travel schedule for the next couple of weeks.  We’re going to keep this update short and sweet, but we do have ground to cover.

Version 11

We have been upgrading our users to Version 11 of ROCS, and the rate of about one user per week.  We have already moved EEC, TCB, SGLR, CLNA, M&E, and KXHR over to V11, and we are currently getting HRRC, LRS, NCRY, YVRR, EV, and HRS ready to go to the customer.  The changeovers have been for the most part painless, with a couple of small issues relating to the individual customization of each user’s system, and no real program issues encountered.  The comments that we have received about V11 have included comments about how much faster the program processes data, the improved stability of the system, and the revised screen layouts.

We have also received positive comments about the new communications system, Robo-FTP.   The program has been working without problems at all but one of our users that have V11, and we believe that the problems that we have encountered at the user that is the exception are due to interactions with the user’s security software.  We are working with the publishers of Robo-FTP to see what is causing the issues, and should have that user back on Robo-FTP shortly.

Finally, we are getting everyone ready for the changeover to the new car hire system next month.  For those users that haven’t done CHDX car hire before, we are writing up directions on how to do it properly, and we will have the out in the next couple of days.  We also plan on working with any of our customers that aren’t comfortable with the process, and making this transition as easy as possible.

GPS in Dispatch

After a bit of a delay, I have given Paul the project of integrating the GPS systems that some of our Dispatch users have with our system.  Some of you will be hearing from him soon, and we believe that this will be a useful enhancement to ROCSDispatch.

TRACCURATE

The test installation of the TRACCURATE system at the M&E has been humming along, and we have been using the results of the tests to improve the product.  Our hardware partners, Short Line Technologiestm have made some improvements to the SLT-100 reader and the firmware, and we have made some improvements to the ROCSScan interface software.  All of these improvements continue to make TRACCURATE one of the best values in the AEI market today.

Vacation and Travel

I will be on vacation August 16-19.  As always when I am on the road, I can be reached on the cell phone, but I may not be able to immediately log into your system if there is a problem.  I appreciate your patience, and there is a major issue, I will get to a computer as quickly as possible.

I will also have limited availability August 29-31, as I will be travelling on family business.

Well, as I stated above this would be a quick update.  Enjoy the rest of the summer, and we’ll be back in early September with all of the latest news from SDS.

Be safe,

Steven Friedland

President
