Greetings –
While summer has ended, SDS has been busy finishing Version 7, which is now running at the M&E and HRRC. The other installations will be upgraded to 7 in the near future, and the MERR(Maine Eastern Railroad, a M&E operation) will be Version 7.
In this update we will look at the new and upgraded features of Version 7, and the calendar for SDS.
Version 7
Version 7 incorporates a number of new and upgraded features, and in addition to the descriptions here, the new screens can be seen on the website.
New Screens – We have taken a number of the screens in the system and made them common between the different users. We have done the same thing with a number of the queries and tables that make up the system. This will allow us to make version changes easier and faster.
Expanded UMLER and BrakeCheck – As we have discussed in previous months, the automatic UMLER download has been expanded to the full UMLER record, which includes the air brake test date. The test dates are incorporated into the BrakeCheck screen, which lists all cars that are inbound to the user’s railroad, and all cars that are online, with their last and next air brake test dates. A report is also available for printing. We have also added the car size and loaded weight to the Advance Cars screen, and we can set the screen to indicate cars that are over any size or weight restrictions a user might have.
AutoAdd – When ROCS was first created, the user had to add each car to the database individually. Version 4 added BlockAdd, which allowed the user to add multiple cars for a customer at once. The next step in this evolution has been added to Version 7: AutoAdd. AutoAdd adds cars automatically to the database based on previously received waybills. Any cars that are new but not added through AutoAdd can be added later with BlockAdd.
Print Inbound Waybills – With one click, the user can now preview all waybills that have been received in interchange on a specified day.
Revised Car Hire and Reclaim - The LCS Car Hire system has been revised, with an improved reclaim report and integrated summary.
Travel Schedule
We will be at the ASLRRA Central & Pacific Region meeting in San Diego at the end of September, and we look forward to seeing everyone out there and we will be available to do demonstrations for anyone who would like them. Give us a call before the meeting or find us at the meeting, and we’ll schedule a time.
