Short Line Data Systems Inc. ROCS Update – May 2003

Website: www.sdsrocs.com

Greetings:

Spring has finally sprung, and SDS is getting ready the ASLRRA Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Philadelphia May 18-20.  We will be in booth 604 at the left front of the exhibition hall, and look forward to seeing everyone.  Stop by and pick up some pens or pads, see the latest version of ROCS, and drop your business card in our bowl to be entered into a drawing for a Kodak digital camera.

As part of our preparations for the ASLRRA meeting, we have created a new demonstration version of ROCS.  This is a fully functional copy of the program with some parts, such as EDI, disabled.  The demo will run on any computer with Access 2000 already installed on it, all you have to do is copy it over from the CD to your hard drive and double click on the file.  The demo is also available on the website, along with the Powerpoint preview of ROCS that we will be showing in Philadelphia.

New Features:

With April behind us (see last month’s update for what we are talking about), we have added a new report to the system.  At the request of the Housatonic we have created a switch list organized by track, instead of the by customer report previously available.  We are also working on a bunch of reliability features that clean up some “behind the screens” issues that we have to fix manually now, but would like to make the fixes automatic.

We are also working on a separate settlement database that can be used as an adjunct to ROCS.  The new system will keep the settlement information in a separate database from the main ROCS files, maintaining internal security of your settlement information.  We should have the first version of this done shortly after ASLRRA, and it will be used at the Housatonic first.

We have been conducting tests of ROCS on a server network, and we can report that we have encountered no issues at this point that would prevent anyone from running ROCS on a server system.

Well, that is about all of the information that we have to write at the moment, so please stop by the booth in Philly, and we look forward to showing everyone what new things we have to offer.

Take care,

Steven Friedland

President
