The EDI menu gives the user the ability to send and receive data via the data network of the user’s choice and process both the inbound and outbound data. Waybills, Advance Consists, and TRAINII messages are processed, and the inbound data is added to the user database. With one click your data is sent via FTP (File Transfer Protocol), and data is downloaded to your computer. To satisfy the need to send data in near real time, ROCS automatically sends data out when certain screens are closed. TRAINII messages are generated automatically with little or no user input. In fact, the only TRAINII movement report that requires any user input is a ARive In transit Location (ARIL or ARI) message. All moves that are not associated with an interchange, placement or release are shown on the screen below, where the user has the option of generating the message by adding a date and time. Everything else is handled without any additional user input.
ROCS incorporates both TRAINII tracing and a capability to use the tracing systems provided by the Class 1 railroads or the Steelroads demand trace. For the TRAINII tracing system, all the user has to do is click on the Send Trace Request button, and the trace request is sent. The next time the user receives EDI data, the tracing information will be updated. The Class 1/Steelroads tracing takes all of the cars on the user’s inbound list, and with a single click, puts the list in the Windows clipboard. The user then proceeds to the Steelroads Demand Trace site on the web, pastes the data into the list box, and traces with the data being saved to a comma separated values (CSV) file. After returning to ROCS, a single click updates the trace information for all of the cars on the inbound list with the latest Steelroads trace. Similar functions are available for the AccessNS system, CSXT ShipCSX system, CN Quick Trace, or any tracing system that allows the user to download the trace information. The tracing operation also performs two other functions on each inbound car: rating the car for settlement, and checking the dwell time. Auto-rating for both per-car and weight based rates is available, and the dwell time is shown on the Inbound Cars screen.
