Short Line Data Systems Inc. ROCS Update – April 2002
Website: www.sdsrocs.com
This update is going to be a little different (and shorter) than the normal update. We have been quite busy the over the last month preparing for the ASLRRA Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando at the end of this month. We will be in booth 215 in the exhibition hall, and we look forward speaking with everyone about ROCS. We will also be giving away a Handspring Visor Neo (in blue, of course), so drop off your business card at the booth.
One new development is that we now have a demo version of ROCS available. It can be found on our website, or we will have copies of it available at the booth in Orlando. The download package includes a PowerPoint “movie” about ROCS, a slide show showing the features of the system, and the demo copy of ROCS. You need to have Access 2000 installed on your computer to run the demo, and I will apologize in advance for errors that might occur with the demo, as I had to deactivate a significant part of the program to protect the security of the code, and try not to give away the farm.
We are now using version 4 as the release version of ROCS, and we have set two priorities for version 5. The first is the development of the in-house car hire system, which will eliminate the need to have someone process your car hire reports. Most of the system is already in place in ROCS, and we have to focus on the transmission and reception of the LCS Rate and event information to create the automatic system. The second is the implementation of the FTP communications system. The building blocks for this system are already in place, we just have to stack them in the correct order.
In addition to these big new features, we will have the usual collection of smaller changes and fixes. We are planning to build a feature that will ease upgrading from an older version to a newer one, as well as a feature to add cars to the database in a block from EDI, instead of one at a time. As always, we do appreciate (and encourage) input from current and potential users for things that they would like to see in ROCS, and we will try to turn the ideas into reality as quickly as possible.
That’s all for now, and we’ll see everyone in Orlando in two weeks!
